1st Things 1st
Summer greetings from the Big Guy and me! I don’t know about you but it is really hard for me to enjoy this hot, hot weather. But I hope whatever your pleasure is; you are enjoying it to the fullest.
It has been 1 year since Walt and I started a regular physical fitness routine, with a fitness conditioning specialist, and it’s now true confession time. Big guy has lost approximately 30 pounds; has self-managed his diabetes well enough to have his medication routine greatly reduced by his doctor. Me; on the other hand had, operative word “had”, continued to be challenged with no weight loss, to speak of. Although in January, just six months into our routine, I had lost quite a few inches.
This past Friday was our last day, for now, having regular workouts with our specialist, Jose, who has just been a “breath of life” for us. I tell everyone I know, if you can afford it, it is well worth every dime.
As you can see, we each had big smiles on our faces; although some of the reasons may differ from person to person; one thing for certain is we were all smiles because Big Guy and I “got it”. As much as I hate the heat, I now walk 5 miles, 6 days a week and finally, drum roll please, yes finally, I lost weight! I weighed 4 pounds less on my last official weigh in. Y-E-A-H-H!!!!!!!!!!
Lesson learned, always have a G. P. S. to help you travel the roads to a healthy lifestyle. G.P.S.??? Did I hear you ask, “what is a G. P. S.”?? Well, you will have to watch for my next post to learn about the necessary G.P.S.
Eat well. Exercise. Drink plenty of water. Stay cool and have a very happy 4th of July.

You forgot to mention how amazing you look and feel…a number ain’t nothing! Okay I know numbers matter but I also know how amazing you look!!
Hey Buddy! You are just plain old biased because you are my special “triathlon” Buddy. However, I have to admit, I finally had to break down and buy some clothes that fit. I actually bought several skirts and I can’t tell U the last time I did that. I am excited and many, many thanx for all the encouragement you have and continue to offer. I already decided that “sink or swim”, I’m doing the indoor triathlon again next year.
Stay healthy. Enjoy the summer and look forward 2 the next time.
Hey Girlie. Glad to learn that you were able to shed a few more pounds. I know you were getting discouraged. But you are looking good. Keep up the good work. I am still going to the Y and I do walk when I have time. Although last week was a bust. Garden has kept me too busy. Don’t know if I’ll reach the five mile mark, but hey, it’s something to shoot for.
Thanx for sharing my joy. It has been a challenge and the hardest part, as I have shared before, has been the laboring and not seeing the “fruits of my labor” but I am so pleased to have not given up and that I was able to “stay the course”.
Don’t be so hard on yourself because gardening is a means of exercising as well. Bet you did not realize that 60 minutes of general gardening burns up 394 calories compared to a brisk walk at 3.5 mph only burns 374. As a gardner, you hit the jack pot…..you get to have good healthy organic vegetables and engage in an exercise without a lot of stress and strain. And I can attest, first hand just how delicious some of those vegetables are.
It really helps a great deal to encourage one another. Gr-8 job!
Dear Clarice, the scale may not be moving, but you certainly are my dear lady! You and Big Guy look wonderful. I see you are becoming quite the athlete and fitness expert. I am so proud of you and Walt’s accomplishments. With the SC heat, exercise can become a struggle. You both are doing great! What an inspiration you both are!
Well hello there my Friend! How are you and the family doing? Thanx for the pat on the back but make sure you give yourself one 2. I have been able to continue this journey thanx 2 the help and encouragement from folks like you that inspire me to keep going when I think I can’t. You are part of my GPS system (I’ll explain in my next post). I’ve been walking a lot, trying to keep away medication for HBP and diabetes. So far, so good. I can’t talk the talk if I’m not walking the walk! Sending love and prayers for your continued blessings.
